Anti-NS Riots
When did it happen?
-It happen in Singapore that
occurred in 1954 due to the
communist influence. The
persons involved were only the
Chinese students in Chinese
Middle School age 20 and above.
Most of the students are 20 years
old and above as their education
was disrupted during the war.
Where did it happen?
- In streets having protests.
Who were involved?
- Involve Chinese students in
Chinese Middle school age
and British government.
Students from Chung Cheng
High School held a demonstration
to protest against National Service.
Why did it happen?
- On 13 May 1954, students at a
number of Chinese schools
demonstrated against the
British government's decision
to make young men, age 18-20,
do part-time military service.
The students were unwilling to
defend a foreign government
which they wantedto drive out
of Singapore. The Chinese
students felt that it was unfair
to them, as they saw no future in
the British-ruled state. Some also
believed that it was a ploy to use
local people to preserve colonial
rule. The demonstration led to
rioting and the police had to
put down on the riot.

When and how did Maria Hertogh riots happen ?
The Maria Hertogh Riots between ethic Malays and the European and Eurasian communities in Singapore occured on 11 december 1950.The riots took place over a period of 3 days and at least 18 people killed and 173 people injured. Many properties were also damaged. It sparked by the controversial custody battle between Maria's adoptive Malay family and her Eurasian parents.
what happen after the Maria Hertogh riots ?
The effects of the riot are that public transport and business were distrupted. An estimated $21 000 worth of property was destroyed, and 18 people were killed as well as 173 casualties. Muslims were more respected as well as other races and the public were thought not to be racist and understand other religions.
